Rarely do new projects make a significant mark, but The Student Magazine seems to be in its own terrain of not only success but also new ideas.

Three months after launching its journey in magazine publication with its first edition which also enjoyed good sales, The Student Magazine has returned with the second edition. The new magazine looks professional as compared to the debut. Scoring high is the quality of stories and interviews featured in the publication.

With colour throughout, the pictures and text—well aligned and designed make the 44-paged magazine look attractive.

“We always aim high. This is what we have achieved this time, but we believe we can do more and we will continue to improve the magazine,” said head of sales and marketing Violet Mzembe, adding that the magazine is selling at only K1000 (US$2) and there are printing 15 000 copies to hit the market next week.

The edition leads with a political story that explores who holds the future of Malawi’s education. Titled Who holds the magic stick?, the story looks at the four political figures—People’s Party (PP) President Joyce Banda, United Democratic Front president (UDF) Atupele Muluzi, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) president Peter Mutharika and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera on what hope they give to the future of education in Malawi if they make it into government next year.

Other interesting stories are on sports, entrepreneurship, environment and entertainment.

“Our target audience is students and we made sure all stories are relevant to the youth. We have included different topics to ensure anyone who gets the copy finds one or two pages relevant and interesting,” said Mzembe.

She also revealed that they are launching the magazine on November 9, 2013 at College of Medicine in Blantyre and there will be several activities to spice up the day. These include  sporting activities such as volleyball, netball, basketball chess and football and music performances by renowned artists such as Piksy and Maskal.

During the launch, the magazine will also crown its first Mr and Miss The Student Magazine and the two will walk away with a Laptop and K50 000 (US$135) cash.
