Thole on brink of winning Zimbabwe Golden Glove

Flames goalkeeper William Thole is on the cusp of capping off a dream debut season at Simba Bhora FC by clinching the prestigious Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Golden Glove Award.

The former Mighty Wanderers goalkeeper has 16 clean sheets out of Simba Bhora’s 17 this season.

Has impressed in his debut season: Thole.

With just a match remaining against Yadah FC before the end of the season, Thole has effectively placed himself in pole position for the award, which recognises the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in a single season.

His closest rival Martin Mapisa of Moors World of Sports (Mwos) FC has 11 clean sheets.

Thole also recorded a clean sheet in his CAF Champions League debut when Simba Bhora defeated Nsingizini FC of Swaziland 1-0 in first preliminary round.

He said: “I just thank God for everything. It has been a fantastic season for me.”

Thole’s rise in Zimbabwean football follows his impressive performances at Wanderers and the Malawi National Football Team.

The goalkeeper is currently in camp with the Flames in preparation for an international friendly match against Lesotho in South Africa.

Simba Bhora are third in the Zimbabwe top-flight league with 58 points, eight adrift of designated champions Scotland FC and a point behind second-placed Mwos FC.
