Police in Salima have arrested a woman and her two brothers-in-law on suspicion that they committed murder.
In an interview on Tuesday, Central Region Police deputy spokesperson Kaitano Lubrino identified the suspects as Maria Fanuel, 30, Majidu John, 30, and Juma Kazembe, 43, all from Chembe Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Maganga in the district.
He said on the night of June 4, the deceased Scot Sumaili quarrelled, with his wife Fanuel and fought.
“When she felt she was being overpowered, Fanuel grabbed and pulled her husband’s private parts and he fainted. She then called her husband’s brothers John and Kazembe who helped her carry Sumaili to a nearby bush where they hanged him to a tree,” said Lubrino.
According to the police, villagers found Sumaili hanged the following morning and reported the matter.
The three suspects were later arrested after investigations.
Lubrino said post-mortem results conducted at Salima District Hospital revealed that Sumaili died due to trauma and internal bleeding.
