TNM in no-show as league starts

The 2024 TNM Super League League kicked off yesterday without sponsors TNM plc officials who were in a no-show at all four matches lined up on the opening day.

The sponsors’s absence was conspicuous at the league’s official launch at Dedza Stadium where defending champions FCB Nyasa Bullets and Dedza Dynamos drew one-all.

It was also the same story at other three matches played yesterday.

TNM officials yesterday reserved their comment when contacted.

But Super League of Malawi (Sulom) president Gilbert Mittawa in an interview downplayed the sponsors’ absence.

He said: “TNM is a valued partner for Sulom and our football in general. They have been with us for 17 years, they are with us and they will always be with us.

“I am sure that time and resources permitting, they will be patronising league games as they are always proud of being associated with the league just as we are proud being associated with TNM, the winning brand.”

The development comes amidst a rift between the sponsors and Sulom over the coming of PremierBet as co-sponsors without TNM’s blessings.

According to the contract between the two parties, TNM entrusts Sulom with the responsibility to refraining from entering into other agreements which would restrict or prevent them from providing the rights granted to TNM.

The mobile services TNM is also yet to announce the league sponsorhsip package for ther 2024 season.

Meanwhile, Silver Strikers started with a bang, after defeating Chitipa United 2-0 at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

Newly-promoted Fomo FC also defeated Bangwe All Stars 1-0 at Mulanje Park Stadium.

Moyale Barracks also collected full points after coming from behind to defeat Mafco 2-1 at Mzuzu Stadium.
