The K500 million TNM Super League three-year sponsorship is set to expire this season but Herbert said they will renew the contract.

He said: “We are doing another K500 million this year and another K500 million next year. We going to continue sponsoring the TNM Super League because football is the thing that brings Malawians together.”

Guest of honour during the event Minister of Youth and Sports Uchizi Mkandawire applauded TNM for the sponsorship.

He said: “Well, let me first of all acknowledge the good gesture from TNM.  TNM they say ‘always with you’. And we can testify from the sports sector that indeed TNM has always been with sports, especially in the field of football. We are looking forward to the coming years. We have heard from the horse’s mouth that TNM is still committed to supporting the Super League.

“As government, we are so grateful because it is a lot of money that is going into the TNM Super League. As you have heard, each and every year K500 million is up for grabs.

“But also let me encourage Malawians, do support TNM. TNM is a Malawian company and we need to also support it as Malawians so that they can continue pumping in money in sports, especially football.”

On his part, Sulom vice-president Ronald Chiwaula said TNM’s announcement came as a pleasant surprise.

He said: “We at Sulom I think I should say we are on cloud nine. I never expected that TNM would give us another such commitment of another 18 years.”

During the event Silver Strikers were officially crowned the 2024 season champions and got K100 million while runners-up Mighty Wanderers got K40 million. Third-placedf FCB Nyasa Bullets got K30 million.

There were also individual awards for players, coaches and referees.
