Umthetho organisers seek more support
Organisers of the Umthetho Cultural Festival are calling on potential sponsors to support this year’s celebration which aims to preserve the rich heritage of the Ngoni people.
With a budget of K304 million, the festival has already made strides in fundraising through successful preliminary events, including M’mbelwa night in Lilongwe and a golf tournament.

Resource mobilisation chairperson Charles Zimba said the fundraising events exceeded expectations.
He said the festival will have pavilions where sponsors can showcase their products and services alongside cultural activities.
“A second M’mbelwa night is planned for Mzuzu City as part of the celebrations,” said Zimba.
He emphasised that the festival is not just an event, but a way of preserving the Ngoni culture for future generations.
On her part, Umthetho organising committee chairperson Emma Kaliya highlighted the importance of the festival.
“It’s one way of telling the world who we are,” she said.
The Umthetho Cultural Festival is part of a broader trend of cultural festivals in Malawi, showcasing the country’s diverse ethnic groups’ customs and history.
The organisers are urging potential sponsors to come on board and support the festival, which promises to be a vibrant celebration of Ngoni heritage.
With its rich cultural programme and potential for economic benefits, the Umthetho Cultural Festival is an attractive opportunity for sponsors to promote Malawian culture.
