Minister of State in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Reem Hashimy has hailed Malawi President Joyce Banda for her resilience in advancing the women’s cause.

Hashimy made the praise on Monday after meeting Banda on the sidelines of the World Energy Forum in Dubai.

“I admire Joyce Banda’s achievements not only in development but also in advancing the needs and aspirations of women.

“As women in the UAE, we intend to visit your country to see how we can properly foster new and existing areas of collaboration and innovations.

“We are interested in exploring options relating to maternal mortality, early childhood, secondary and primary education, including potential nutrition programmes in areas that are poverty stricken to try to break the cycle of the same in society,” he said.

Gulf of Good, an organisation which promotes the well-being of children, is also interested in working with Banda.

Gulf of Good chairperson Brian Wilkie said his organisation intends to explore the possibility of coming to Malawi to assist in girls’ education.

“President Banda is excited to hear our ambitions to assist in girls’ education because we know she believes that Malawi as a country has the potential to develop by investing in the girl child.

“She knows if Malawi can harness the potential for both girls and boys, the country could be assured of a brighter future,” said Wilkie.—Mana
