US First Lady to visit Malawi

The First Lady of the United States of America, Melania Trump, is due to visit Malawi and three other African countries next month.

Trump announced the four-country African visit at a reception for the spouses of foreign leaders at the ongoing United Nations General Assembly (Unga) in New York yesterday, according to the website www.nbcnews.com.

In her remarks, Trump said she would be promoting child welfare in Ghana, Malawi, Kenya and Egypt in October on her first extended solo international mission.

She said: “Oct 1st will mark the first day of my solo visit to four beautiful and very different countries in Africa.”

The exact dates of the travel remain unknown in the meantime.

Malawi’s First Lady Gertrude Mutharika is also in New York where she has accompanied President Peter Mutharika who is attending the 73rd Unga. The President addressed the assembly on its opening day on Tuesday.  n
