The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has appointed Simon Vuwa Kaunda as campaign director. He replaces Bessie Chirambo who resigned from her position last week citing differences with the party leadership.

The DPP constitution outlines the sharing of positions on regional lines and the position of campaign director had been left to the party’s Northern Region front.

The party’s regional governing council put forward Kaunda’s name, which was endorsed by the national governing council (NGC).

The party secretary general Jean Kalirani said the NGC approved Kaunda’s name on December 24.

In an interview Wednesday, Kaunda who was deputy national organising secretary in the party’s NGC, said it was an honour that the party had entrusted in him such a huge task especially as it gears up for next year’s tripartite elections.

“I will work tirelessly to make sure the president wins in 2014 and also win the majority of MPs so that business in Parliament should be smooth,” said Kaunda who is Nkhata Bay Central MP and DPP’s deputy chief whip in Parliament.
