Walter eyes parliamentary seat
Former Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu has asked people in Nsanje South West Constituency to vote for him as the area’s parliamentarian in the September 16 General Election.
He said this on Saturday during his first political rally at Khulubvi Primary School in Nsanje District.
Said Nyamilandu: “I served as FAM president for 19 years and I took Malawian football to higher levels in Africa by, among others, constructing magnificent Mpira Village in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre and other infrastructure in the country.

“I was elected Confederation of Africa Football [CAF] executive committee member and also served as a Fifa Council member.”
He further said he initiated the K500 million Nsanje Youth Centre project with sponsorship from Fifa as well as established Walter Nyamilandu Academy which has two teams of Under-16 and 19.
“I will use the experience from both football and Illovo [Sugar Malawi] plc to transform our constituency which is always denied social amenities such as electricity, water, health services, bridges and roads,” he said.
Village head Tsamdoka of Traditional Authority Malemia said Nyamilandu was a true son of the area.
“I have the Nyamilandu family in my village where he also comes from. He regularly visits his home village,” he said.
The event was spiced by music performances from the Black Missionaries Band, Livison Thimfu and Khumbo Kamba as well as poems from Wiseman Jumbe and Masokunyenga Drama Group stand-up comedy.
