We are running out of excuses on passport system

Listen to this article

My lord, the passport issuance noise or its lack of has now reached irritating levels. I don’t know who to believe anymore between rumour mongers and the Nyasaland government.

Either the establishment has all along been feeding us half truths or the citizens have developed some phobia for truth after being lied to for a long time so much that every explanation offered is treated with suspicion.

What started as a rumour that the Nyasaland Department had lost all its data metamorphosed into a worst nightmare for our passport applicants when they woke up to find a complete system shutdown.

Nobody has up to now owned up to the mistake that led to system failure.

My lord, I noted how Minister of Information in Nyasaland Mose Little-fig-tree had to be dragged to defend the indefensible as he was eventually forced to eat a humble pie after somebody peddled lies that they had recovered all the passport data.

After ultimatums, assurances and deadlines, it seems we have not really moved with speed to normalise the situation.

Now you hear a strange apportioning of the blame; faulting the Nyasaland Government in the manner it terminated the contract of the initial system supplier.

The argument is that a replacement should have been identified first before cancelling the contract.

My lord, if Homeland Security is not government, then who is?

My lord, which government is being blamed here? I thought we were listening to the government last week, offering an explanation on the reasons we seem to be moving in circles.

We all know, my lord, that the government being referred to here is not some inanimate object but people entrusted with the responsibility of making decisions and shaping policy on behalf of the citizens.

As long as you are part of that system, you have to take responsibility for the mess created. Or was that statement a veiled admission of failure on the part of the Nyasaland government?

My lord, we don’t need public performances or drama to convince people that we are finding solutions to the current passport crisis.

I think Nyasas are too smart to be hoodwinked by any public drama in the guise of unannounced visits. They can see through such theatrics, my lord.

This is no time to lament over challenges dogging the restoration of passport issuance system when we made a lot of noise and threats, too, on the same.

It is my submission my lord that we have run out of excuses on the passport debacle.

My lord, the challenges that emerged will continue to haunt us as long as those looking for solutions are motivated by short term gains.

My lord, when are we going to accept the reality that the proof of pudding is always in the eating?

Regards,

John Citizen.
