Well-wisher roofs health post in Mchinji District
Well-wisher Anthony Masamba has supported the rehabilitation of Kambuwe Health Post in Mchinji which provides healthcare services to women and under-five children.
Speaking on Wednesday when he donated 30 iron sheets, three rolls of soft wire, five kilogrammes of nails and two ridges, Sub-Traditional Authority (ST/A) Kambuwe commended the support, saying the health post serves 3200 people in the area.
“The facility supports women and children, who most of the time, are unable to go to Kapiri and Mkanda which are about 21 kilometres away,” he said.
One of the mothers, Susan Kasusu, also thanked Masamba for the initiative.
“We need a proper facility, but what Masamba has done is commendable. This health post is important as we do not need to travel far for medical assistance,” she said.
The area’s disease control and surveillance assistant Christon Mkhondi said the health post has limited structures but serves many people.
“We are heading towards the rainy season and the structures here need proper roofing. So the support has come in handy,” he said.
Mkhondi said the facility serves about 150 children and 50 women daily.
Masamba said he wanted to ensure women and children are getting assistance from a proper shelter.
“Expectant women from ST/A Kambuwe rely on this facility to access antenatal services as they cannot go to Kapiri or Mkanda. In sunny or rainy conditions, it will be difficult to get the services; hence, the move to roof it,” he said
