Liberation for Economic Freedom Party leader Prophet David Mbewe has donated livestock to muslims at Nselema in Machinga District for Eid Ul-fitr celebrations.

The donation follows the announcement made by the Muslim Association of Malawi that Muslims in the country will observe Eid Ul-fitr prayers either today or tomorrow depending on sighting of the moon.

Speaking in an interview on Monday after the donation, Mbewe, who is also founder for Living Word Evangelistic Church, urged the muslims to continue praying for a peaceful Malawi, especially as the country prepares to hold general elections next year.

“We need to unite as a country. With prayers and supplications to God, every problem that our country is facing can be solved,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the muslims, Sheikh Jailu Ibrahim said the donation will go a long way in helping underprivileged muslims to have special food on the Eid Ul-fitr occasion.

In a separate interview, Paramount Chief Kawinga of the Yao people urged muslims to sustain the spirit and lessons gained from the Ramadan period to promote peace, unity and progress.

He further reminded of Zakatul Fitr or giving out measures of foodstuffs to the needy at the end of the month-long fasting period.

“Sacrifices you have all made during the holy month of Ramadan should draw everyone closer to the Almighty Allah. May He make Eid a great occasion for interaction, harmony and tolerance,” said Kawinga.

Among others, Mbewe donated a cow and goats to be shared to two mosques surrounding Nselema Trading Centre in the district.
