Yao Bible launch in October

The Bible Society of Malawi (BSM) says the launch of the first ever Yao bible will take place in October this year.

BSM director of programmes Kamwana Muyaya said in an interview on Monday that the society was in the course of preparing for the event. He said printing of the first 5 000 consignment was underway in China.

“We are yet to decide whether to hold the event in Mangochi and Liwonde. We are trying to identify a place that is central to Yao-speaking districts of Chiradzulu, Zomba, Machinga, Mangochi and Balaka,” he explained.

He said it took them 15 years to translate the New Testament into Yao and Lhomwe. Muyaya said translating the Old Testament was underway Luchenza in Thyolo
