Youths urged to embrace entrepreneurship
Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute (Smedi) in partnership with Project Innovation Centre (PIC) have challenged youths in Mzuzu to embrace entrepreneurship to be self-reliant.
Speaking on Saturday at St. Andrew’s CCAP in Mzuzu during a one-day entrepreneurship summit, Smedi regional manager for the North, Mwawi Makwakwa, said they are eager to support the youth through training so that they grow economically.
He said: “Some youths remain unemployed after graduating from college due to tough conditions for them to access loans. But Smedi is ready to empower you with entrepreneurial skills so that you start small
businesses.”
PIC chief executive officer Kondwani Kachamba Ngwira said he has already reached out to at least 2 000 youths from various colleges with entreprenurial skills.
He said: “At Project Innovation Centre, we believe in youth empowerment. We have helped 2 000 graduates to start various businesses. Some are progressing well in cooking oil production.”
One of the participants, Cecilia Chakhala, said the entrepreneurship summit was an eye-opener as they can spot their weaknesses and how they can overcome entrepreneurial challenges.
