The men’s category went down to the wire with Yusuf, playing off handicap (h/14), counting out his runner-up Levison Kapito (h/c 10) with a 66 net-score. Hamza Kali (h/c15) who had 69 net-score, came third.

It was the first time for Yusuf to win a golf tournament and he was visibly floating on air.

“I am so excited, to be honest there was nothing extraordinary, it was just my day. I had two over par on back nine and I think that inspired me a lot,”  said Yusuf who also claimed the nearest to the pin accolade.

In the ladies’ category, Kamphulusa (h/c26) carried the day with a 73 net-score whereas Joline Bapu (h/c17) came second with a 77 net-score.  Bapu also had the longest drive (combined) on hole 16.

The winners got accommodation vouchers for two people for two nights and breakfast at Cedar Place while the runners-up received vouchers for one night and breakfast for two.

Cedar Place marketing supervisor Atupele Singano described the tournament as a success, saying: “For us, it was a good shot. To have a field of 53 in our maiden tournament, was impressive.

“This time we prepared a little package, but next time we will do more. We plan to reach out to other golf clubs such as Lilongwe and Mzuzu as well.”

Cedar Place, located near Namiwawa Filling Station, offers accommodation,  luxury and lodging apartments.

CCL board member Chapusa Phiri thanked Cedar Place for the sponsorship. n
