Citations made during the Mining Mega Music Show conducted by the Ministry of Mining at Mangochi Airstrip on Saturday have established that mining could be a viable source of income for the country.

Speaking before the commencement of the show, deputy director of Geological Survey in the Department of Mining, Jalf Salima, said his department has embarked on the sensitisation shows with the aim of educating people on the importance of mining.

“Our department is on a drive to teach people about the merits of mining companies to the country; its viability and potential as well as its economic impact,” said Salima. “The economic impact of mining leads to economic expansion and decreasing poverty.”

Salima said they engaged musicians because experience has shown that artists are crowd-pullers.

He said the music shows will go around the country as one way of reaching as many people as possible.

And with performances by Lulu, Katelele Ching’oma, Ethel Kamwendo-Banda, Alex Kamonga and Moses Makawa, patrons went home a converted lot.
