Chalulu shines in FAM Trade Agencies Jnr Golf

Marcus Chalulu turned on a classic display to win the Trade Agencies Junior Golf Tournament played on medal format at Country Club Limbe on Sunday.

The 11-year-old blossoming golfer was the overall winner after registering 70 strokes in the 18-hole main category. His runner-up was Wade Windell who registered 76 strokes while Mario Phiri was third with 80 strokes.golf-jnt

In his victory speech, Chalulu, who is enjoying a rich vein of consistent form, said: “I thank my parents for their support and encouragement, I would also like to recognise the effort of the coach [Dingaan Chirwa] for drilling me into a better player and the sponsors for hosting such a wonderful tournament,” he said.

In the other 18-hole category, competed by golfers aged above 13 years, Ganizani Lushu won with 86 strokes followed by Hassan Hassam (79 strokes) whereas Rashid Salimu (81), came third.

In the nine-hole category, Carlo Van Der Walt continues to dominate and emerged winner with 59 strokes followed by Anish Amin (61) while ever-improving Kate Chapola finished third (68).

Fresh from participating at an international tournament in Zambia, six-year-old Ziyaad Mussa claimed the five-hole category, but it was not a walk-over for him as he had to count out Adi Lakhani after tying on 41 strokes. Adrian Mwale came third on 45 strokes.

The three-hole category was won by Carlos Phiri who had 30 strokes followed by Rory Stanely (31). Stanely counted out  Andrico Oelofse.

Sponsor’s representative Amol Dutt said they bankrolled the tournament as one way of developing young golfers.

“We were very impressed with the turnout and commitment shown by our young golfers and we are proud to be associated with junior golf,” said Dutt.

FAM Trade Agencies are specialists in protective wear, farm produce and motor vehicle parts, among other things.
