Former Flames coach Kinnah Phiri quietly left the country for South Africa last week to discuss contractual terms with struggling South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Free State Stars.

A well-placed source confided to The Nation that Kinnah flew out to South Africa last Thursday.

However, Kinnah could not be reached for comment on Monday, but he confirmed to The Nation last week that he would apply for leave to travel to South Africa for further discussions with Ea lla Koto.

But in an interview with South African online publication, kickoff.com, Stars’ public relations officer Lebohang Maketa could neither confirm nor deny Kinnah’s imminent return.

“I was out of the country, I will have to speak to the general manager [Rantsi Mokoena] and get information from him.”

Kinnah currently works as regional football development officer for the North under the Malawi National Council of Sports and his contract is due to expire in June next year.
