The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (Dodma) has donated relief items to 132 households affected by heavy rains and strong winds in traditional authorities (T/As) Mwaulambia and Misuku in Chitipa.

Speaking on Monday during the handover, Chitipa District disaster, relief and rehabilitation officer Gloria Banda urged beneficiaries to take care of the items.

“We also advise people to construct resilient houses that can withstand storms,” she said.

In his remarks, senior village head Chipwela from T/A Mwaulambia commended Dodma for the donation.

“People had no food following the disaster,” he said.

However, one of the beneficiaries, Happy Simwayi, appealed for more support.

“I lost my property during the disaster,” she said.

The items included rice, beans and blankets.

This year, heavy rains and strong winds also affected people in Karonga, Mchinji, Ntcheu, Balaka and Mulanje districts.
