“The race for the FDH Bank Premiership Coach of the Month award for May features three coaches who have guided their teams to impressive starts in the 2026/27 season,” the statement reads.

Msakakuona was nominated after leading Blue Eagles to four wins, one draw and one defeat in their opening matches, a run that has kept the Malawi Police Service-sponsored side among the early title contenders.

On the other hand, Akidu also earned a nomination after making an immediate impact since taking charge of Ekhaya FC on an interim basis.

He won three, including back-to-back victories, while suffering just one defeat.

Mponda completes the three-man shortlist after guiding Masters FC to four wins from six matches.

He also became the first coach this season to register three consecutive league victories.

In the players’ category, Mighty Wanderers forward Lameck Mithi, Silver Strikers midfielder Ernest Petro and Blue Eagles defender Webster Mzunda are shortlisted for the Player of the Month accolade.

Mithi was nominated after scoring five goals in six matches, including becoming only the second player this season to score a hat-trick. He also won one Man of the Match award.

Petro made the shortlist after featuring in all six of Silver Strikers’ league matches, scoring once and collecting two Man of the Match awards.

Mzunda on the other hand, claimed two Man of the Match awards.

Sulom general secretary Williams Banda said the winners of both awards are expected to be announced after the assessment process.
