3 Malawian boxersto fight in Zambia

hree Malawian boxers are set to fight in Lusaka, Zambia on February 26 on the undercard of a World Boxing Council (WBC) female super-bantam weight title bout between Zimbabwean Kudakwashe Chiwandire and Zambian Catherine Phiri.

The three boxers are Robert Kachiza, Grey Chimkwapulo and Clifford Antara who will fight Zambian opponents in non-title bouts.

According to Clyde Musonda of Zimbabwe’s Delta Force Boxing Academy, who has organised the fights, Kachiza will face Alfred Muwowo in an eight-round flyweight fight, Chimkwapulo will take on Remmie Simbeye in an eight-round lightweight while Antrara date Enock Mwika.

Kachiza: I am looking forward to win

In an interview, Musonda said the invitation of the Malawian boxers underlines his determination to promote boxing in the country.

 He said: “This is a magnificent event as I always say Malawi is my second home.

“With the big bouts like these, it was important to include boxers from Malawi. We expect very interesting fights.”

On his part, Kachiza said he is looking forward to winning.

“I am taking this as my opportunity to show my potential at the international stage that I am a matured boxer,” he said.

Kachiza has fought 23 bouts with 15 wins and eight losses while his opponent has fought eight, winning three and losing five.

Meanwhile, Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) president Lonzoe Zimba has applauded Musonda for promoting Malawian boxers.

“We thank Musonda for coming out to arrange fights for our boxers which helps to expose them on the international scene. It is a welcome move that will help to develop the sport,” he said.
