malawi-policeThree suspected robbers were killed Monday morning in a foiled robbery attack at the Lilongwe City Mall.

Police in Lilongwe have confirmed the incident that brought business to a standstill at one of the busiest shopping complexes in the capital.

“Brandishing machetes, four robbers attacked an accountant at City Supermarket who at that time wanted to enter one of the banks within the mall’s premises. She dropped the money amounting to K6 million (about $15 000), which the robbers made away with.

“The four boarded a Toyota Saloon with a fake registration BLK 2278, but they were stopped after the vehicle’s driver was shot dead by City Supermarket owner,” said Lilongwe Police spokesperson Ramsey Mushani.

He has since identified the deceased as McDonald Mandala.

Mushani said three others were stopped by the public and that one of the robbers, who sustained a deep cut on his head after being hit by a hoe, was saved by police from mob justice.

“He was taken to Kamuzu Central hospital for treatment where he died upon arrival. The third suspect was apprehended in Area 15 where he died at the hands of mob justice. The fourth suspect Mike Elias is under police custody,” said Mushani.

  1. This is really some good news I have not heard for quite a long time coming out of Malawi. When robbers attack businesses at the heart of our capital city in broad day light, it begs the question whether they do this with the full blessing of our police. Our police seem never to have a grip on the lack of security in our beloved country. What surprises many people is that we see a lot police officers at the president’s political rallies than we see in the entire city conducting patrols.
Well, at least Lilongwe residence will sleep well tonight knowing that their city has got rid of 3 notorious habitual criminals. Keep it up guys until there is none left.
