39 hone skills in farm management
Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training Authority (Teveta) has awarded certificates to 39 people who underwent a four-month farm management training programme at Mikolongwe Veterinary College in Chiradzulu District.
The programme, which is part of Teveta’s informal sector education initiative, has equipped the trainees with practical farm management skills in poultry, goat, piggery, dairy and maize production.
The training aims to enhance people’s ability to contribute to local development and improve extension services in agriculture.

Teveta regional manager (South) Conceptor Bamusi said the training will bring into the agriculture industry individuals who are not only skilled in different agricultural activities but also well informed on how to manage farms.
“We thought of coming up with the programme after observing a need in the government’s mega farm initiative to have people who are specifically trained in farm management,” she said.
Bamusi also said they invested K233 million for the pilot programme this year.
The institution’s vertinary officer Chimwemwe Kamlongera highlighted the importance of the practical knowledge the trainees acquired.
“I believe they have been empowered with the necessary skills to drive agricultural growth and that they will contribute to local development,” he said.
One of the trainees, Magdalene Mambiya, said she acquired practical skills to excel in agriculture
“It has been a great opportunity for me to be part of the training. I believe this will help not just me but people in my community,” she said.
