Manjolo: Some were caused by overspeeding

Police have said two people died in road accidents during New Year’s celebrations.

National Police spokesperson Rhoda Manjolo said three people died during the same period.

She said this year, four serious road accidents were reported in which eight people were injured.

The Central Region recorded five accidents, two of them fatal, while the Northern Region recorded one accident in which one person was seriously injured.

She said the Southern and Eastern regions reported no accident.

The police PRO said most of the accidents happened due to over-speeding and drunkenness on the part of the drivers.

“There was also non compliance to some of the road safety tips on the part of pedal cyclists and pedestrians,” she said.
