During a pay parade on Friday, Chikwawa Diocese director of social services Father Matthews Semba said they plan to reach out to 1 816 households in Nsanje and Chikwawa districts.

He said: “We believe that a person has spiritual and physical needs. Besides feeding them with the word of God, we are supporting them with food.

“We thank the Episcopal Conference of Malawi who secured money from the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund to help reach out households in Nsanje and Chikwawa districts.”

A beneficiary Stevenson Bonjesi, 60, from Robert Village said he will use the money to buy maize to feed his nine children.

“The dry spells last growing season affected my crops,” he said.

Another beneficiary Mary Makoko, 62, from Davite Village said she had nothing to feed her six children until the donation.

T/A Makoko thanked Cadecom for the gesture, saying his subjects did not receive support from Nsanje District Council.

However, Nsanje district assistant fisheries officer Daniel Binga assured the people of the council’s support.

“The council has many partners who will support you with food relief items. One of them is Cadecom who are here,” he said.
