Kamuzu Barracks (KB) have set their sights firmly on dislodging fellow military side Red Lions from the summit of the flagship TNM Super League this afternoon.

KB host Azam Tigers at Dedza Stadium which they have turned into a fortress.

KB are currently third on the log table with 22 points, just two short of Lions and a win will see them go top.

However, even if KB win this afternoon, their stay at the top could be short-lived depending on the outcome of tomorrow’s games involving Lions and second-placed Mighty Wanderers who will be taking on Blantyre United and Civo United respectively.

KB’s coach Billy Phambala yesterday said their aim is to add the Kau-Kau boys to their growing list of casualties.

“We have had a good run at our home ground where we have not lost a game so far and we would like to continue with that record.

“But our wish is to win so that we go top of the table. Preparations for the game are still ongoing,” said Phambala.

KB will be without their talisman Joel Chipofya who is still in the process of recovering from an injury, but Phambala played down his absence, saying he has enough arsenal in the likes of midfield workhorse

Dave Banda, Harvey Nkacha, Manase Chiyesa and Diof Simaone.

Tigers technical director Robin Alufandika predicted a tough encounter.

“Considering KB’s clean record at their backyard, it should be a very tough game, but we are not bothered by that, we’ll go there to play our game,” said Alufandika.

Tigers are fifth with 20 points from 11 games.

They have won five, drawn five as well and lost once.

The pick of the afternoon though will be the potentially explosive contest between champions Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles.

The Bankers are looking forward to continuing their revival following their 3-0 midweek win over Mafco.

Relief was the prevalent emotion in the Bankers camp after experiencing bouts of despair so far this season as they went five games without a win.

Their coach Franco Ndawa said he is hoping that they will continue with their resurgence.

“The win over Mafco came as a huge relief and, hopefully, it has helped lift the players’ spirits and we are looking up to God’s guidance,” said Ndawa.

Silver are on unenviable seventh position with 16 points from 11 games. They have won four, drawn four and lost three.

Diminutive forward Green Harawa, who scored a double against Mafco, is expected to lead the Bankers in attack aided by Rodrick Gonani and Chawanangwa Msowoya.

Eagles, on fourth position with 21 points from 11 games, will go second on the table if they beat the Bankers.

At Kamuzu Stadium, Big Bullets will take advantage of their tie against Epac to pay tribute to Chikondi Banda who died on Thursday and was buried in Lilongwe yesterday.
