The entertainment was compelling as Furkani Gani and Margaret Mukwenha qualified for the singles finals of the 2013 Lab Enterprise Match Play golf competition following their victories over Lester Tandwe and Francis Mwansa respectively at Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) on Tuesday.

Gani and Mukwenha will meet during the grand finale slated for December 15.

Just like he did against the ousted defending champion Nestor Msowoya, Gani turned on a vintage display towards the very end in which he won three in two which means he had the game wrapped up in the last two holes as he led by three.

“I am very excited that after seeing off the defending champion, I have beaten Lester to qualify for the finals.

“Now I have to switch focus and prepare for the final match which promises to be tough because Margaret has proved to be a tough player,” said Gani yesterday.

It was also not a stroll on the course for Mukwenha who won on the 19th hole after they tied on hole number 18

In the doubles’ category, defending champions Edwin Chipala and Donbell Mandala’s dream to defend the title was brought to a halt by Adriano Guarino and Andrew Santhe at BSC on Sunday.

Played on 4 ball better ball (4BBB) stableford format, Chipala and Mandala bowed out after losing narrowly 44-46 and the pair of Guarino and Santhe will face winners between the Kalambule couple—Medson and Sophie—and Golf Union of Malawi (GUoM) president James Chimwaza and Mayamiko Kalizang’oma in the finals.
