Blue Company donates items to Beam
Blue Products Company Limited (BPCL) on Friday donated sanitary pads and stationery worth K2 million to Beautify Malawi Trust (Beam) as one way of helping to keep girls in school.
The items were received by Beam founder First Lady Gertrude Mutharika at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
BPCL managing director Mlenga Mvula said his company made the donation to support Beam’s quest of keeping girls in school.
“The First Lady and Beam Trust have been up and down trying to help in girl child education in the country. On the other hand, the President advocates for citizens to be patriotic.
“So, as a company, we thought it wise to make this donation to help Beam fulfil its mission,” said Mvula.
He also said the company wants to adopt a school where it will be making a monthly donation to ensure that girls are empowered with quality education.
Mvula said BPCL is a family business currently operating from South Africa with plans to open branches in Malawi this month.
In his remarks, Beam Trust chairperson Dingiswayo Jere said the donation would help beneficiaries not to miss classes.
“As Beam, we are excited about this donation. We are also encouraging other stakeholders to complement these efforts by providing a small amount, whether through cash or items, that would help schools sustain girls in school,” he said. n
