Creck protest Silver match postponement

Creck Sporting Club has accused Super League of Malawi (Sulom) of giving advantage to other clubs following the rescheduling of their fixture against Silver Strikers.

Sulom yesterday announced it had rescheduled two matches involving Creck and Silver Striker as well as Karonga United and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers set for this weekend.

The statement reads: “The Super League of Malawi wishes to inform clubs and the general public that due to the early departure of Malawi Senior National Team, the Flames to Senegal for their away fixture, against the Lions of Teranga in the TotalEnergies 2025 Afcon, the following fixtures have been postponed to a later date.”

But Creck Sporting Club chairperson Muhammad Seleman has described Sulom’s decision giving an advantage to other clubs.

He said: “Your decisions are affecting the clubs differently. I will say without fear that my club has been negatively affected by your decisions.

“Your postponements have made us stay out of action for two weeks or more when other teams have managed to collect points in the league.”

Seleman said such postponement of games has led to piling fixtures for the outfit.

“For instance, we were forced to play against Moyale Barracks in Mzuzu on Saturday and then played against FCB Nyasa Bullets on Wednesday in Blantyre after having played two other away games previously.

“We were in this situation due to the postponement of our games by Sulom. We all feel the pain and this should be noted by Sulom,” he said.

Seleman called on Sulom to postpone all matches so that all teams are on equal footing.

But Sulom general secretary Williams Banda in an interview said Silver and Wanderers have been excused since they have each contributed more than three players to the Flames squad.

He said: “As per regulations, a team that contributes three or more players is not supposed to be given fixtures. Clubs should know that we do not just reschedule matches without following regulations.”

Banda also said postponing all fixtures is not practical because the Fifa international window is not yet open.
