Fawema supports youths with technical skills
Forum for African Women Educationalists in Malawi (Fawema) has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering the youth with vocational skills to become economically independent.
Fawema board chairperson Maggie Madimbo said this at Salima Technical College on Wednesday after presenting students with personal protective equipment (PPE).
She said: “We observed that most youths were unable to access technical and tertiary education due to lack of financial resources.

“Therefore, our project is helping to increase the number of young people accessing university education as well as vocational training. We are supporting these young people to excel and contribute to the country’s development.”
Madimbo encouraged the youth to work hard to achieve their goals.
Salima Technical College principal Benson Zigona commended Fawema for the PPE, saying trainees are required to wear protective gear in the workshop.
He appealed to other organisations to consider supporting needy students who cannot afford technical education.
A beneficiary Martha Julius said they had no hope of enrolling into a technical college due to lack of resources, but through the project they are earning different skills.
Fawema is supporting 200 students from six technical colleges in the country through the Second Chance Pathways for Increased Access to Tertiary Education for Marginalised Young Women and Men project running with support from the MasterCard Foundation Scholars Programme.
The seven-year project running from 2024 to 2030 is a scale-up of the Mastercard Foundation scholarship programme for 10 African countries.
