Sunbird dates men,opens conversation

In recent years, the country has witnessed a growing culture of proritising men’s wellness courtesy of platforms such as Men’s Conference.

Different corporate organisations have championed such gatherings where issues of mental health, networking, hygiene, relationships, education opportunities and transformation are the core agenda.

On Saturday, Sunbird Tourism plc has organised another Men’s Conference scheduled for Sunbird Mount Soche under the theme ‘Whiskey, Steak and Cigar Night’.

According to the organisers, the event aims to bring together men from diverse backgrounds to share experiences and challenges they face.

Sunbird Tourism plc head of sales, marketing and distribution Temwa Kanjadza said they are committed to hosting events that promote personal growth, community building and social responsibility.

She said the Men’s Conference aims to empower men to become their best selves through sessions and conversations with renowned speakers in their field of study.

“In a time where conversations around men’s mental health, emotional intelligence and positive masculinity are more important than ever, corporate involvement is a crucial enabler in building a culture where men continue to thrive,” said Kadzanja.

She said they believe in investing in initiatives that create real change, including those that equip men with tools to lead healthy, balanced and purpose driven lives.

The event will be graced by keynote speakers such as lawyer Chikosa Silungwe, pychologist Chiwoza Bandawe and cancer specialist Leo Masamba who will share insights on different topics. The event will also be spiced with a music performance by Namadingo.

Being entrusted with a project as big as Lawi’s is no mere feat. We feel encouraged to do more.

“We hope the Vwaza App can become home to Malawian artists of all levels. We truly believe it can be a gateway to exporting Malawian music to the African continent and beyond.”

Vwaza Multimedia artist relations manager Pokani Kaunda said the Vwaza App exists to turn the craftsmanship of local music into revenue that can help artists achieve their goals.

“We look forward to more sign ups from different kinds of artists. We are here to make sure you are heard, differently and empowered in the process,” she said.

On his part, Lawi said he looks at the partnership with Vwaza Multimedia as a window to export Malawian businesses and a chance to give artists the support they need.

“Just because something is new, does not make it less irrelevant.

This is a slight departure from the societal norms that have seen such conversations only focusing on women and girls without considering the vulnerability that men also face in the ever-changing world.

Speaking in an interview yesterday, public relations practitioner Charles Kabena said it is important to do away with some stereotypes which portray men as invincible beings and create a safe space where they can share experiences about their vulnerability to the world around them.

He said: “We are living in a generation where things are changing and life has been changing as well. Today, as men we are confronted by so many challenges. If you look at economic factors things have been worsening.

“Back then, our parents used to have very stable jobs and incomes, but it is not the same with us today. The struggle is becoming huge across the genders. Our dreams are not being realised despite having people putting much effort.”

Kabena said these spaces have to be structured to help men understand that they are not alone and not just to celebrate their masculinity, but also embrace their vulnerable parts of masculinity that have been created by our various social situations
