Nice Trust, candidates sign MoU for peaceful elections
National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust and other stakeholders have urged citizens in Salima District to observe peace during the election period.
Speaking on Tuesday during a peaceful parade and signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with candidates, Salima Nice programmes Queen Mataya said they organised the parade to send a message of coexistence to people, including aspirants and their followers.

She said the solidarity walk was meant to signify that people are one despite wearing different political colours.
“We want to ensure a peaceful campaign for the elections and deal with anything that could be deemed as a barrier to peace in Salima,” said Mataya.
She reminded people that Nice Trust is obliged to strengthen governance systems and ensure human rights prevail through civic education and sensitisation.
On his part, Salima District Council director for human resource and administration Light Burton stressed the importance of promoting peace.
He said: “We are people from Salima and most of us are related, which means we are from one family. Let us refrain from violence and promote peace.
“We should value Salima as one district with one people and one land. If a person is affected, it might also affect another.”
