 Bullets extend lead

FCB Nyasa Bullets yesterday extended their lead at the summit of the TNM Super League table to seven points following their 3-0 victory over Mafco FC at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The People’s Team now has 49 points from 20 matches while their second-placed rivals Mighty Wanderers, who face Blue Eagles at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe this afternoon, have 42 points, but with a two-game cushion.

Bullets dominated from the onset, dictating possession and showing attacking intent through their wide play and quick transitions

Their efforts paid off in the 37th minute when Hassan Kajoke calmly converted from close range, beating Mafco goalkeeper Owen Mbale, thanks to Paul Master’s pin-point pass.

Kajoke claimed a brace eight minutes later from a penalty awarded after Ephraim Kondowe was fouled in the box.

Bullets weren’t done yet. They made it 3-0 in the 77th minute when Babatunde Adepoju slotted home from a Sean McBrams assist.

The Salima-based Malawi Defence Force side lies 11th with 23 points from 21 matches.

In a post-match interview, Bullets assistant coach Gilbert Chirwa said: “We played very well, we were able to keep the ball and that is what we planned. We told the boys that the league has reached a crucial stage and we need to be collecting points.”

At Silver Stadium in Lilongwe, Silver Strikers beat Creck Sporting Club 2-1 to set up a perfect tonic ahead of their trip to Dar es Salaam tomorrow for Saturday’s CAF Champions League preliminary second round second leg against Young Africans.

The Bankers, who have moved a step up to third with 39 points from 19 games, took the lead through a penalty awarded after Harvey Ng’andu fouled Andrew Joseph in the box and up stepped Emmanuel Allan to convert the spot-kick in the 22nd minute.

Creck equalised through Patrick Mupanzi 20 minutes later, but just when it appeared that the two teams would share the spoils, Uchizi Vunga claimed the winner for the hosts with 12 minutes to full time.

Creck remain 10th with 25 points from 21 matches.
