Bullets mum on Mponda’s removal
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets yesterday kept a tight lid on the reasons for firing head coach Peter ‘Mjojo’ Mponda.
The People’s Team announced through a statement yesterday that they had parted ways with their former captain, just a year into his three-year deal.

In an interview yesterday, Bullets acting chief executive officer Albert Chigoga said: “The coach has been given a letter that contains reasons for the decision.”
But on his part, Mponda said it is because of he failed to win the league title.
“For now, that’s all I can say, but I have no hard feelings against the team or anyone and I wish them well,” he said.
Part of the statement from Bullets reads: “FCB Nyasa Big Bullets has decided to part ways with head coach Peter Mponda with immediate effect.
“Peter was appointed at the start of the 2025 season and led the People’s Team to victory in the Airtel Top 8.
“We are grateful to Peter for his service and commitment during his time with the club and wish him well for the future.”
The statement says assistant coach Gilbert Chirwa will take charge of the team as an interim coach.
Mponda’s firing comes barely a day after Bullets’ 2025 title bid hit a snag after being held to a goalless draw by relegation-threatened Mighty Tigers.
On the other hand, their arch-rivals Mighty Wanderers sealed the tile after thumping Moyale Barracks FC 6-0.
Last season, Mponda led Silver Strikers to end their 11-year title drought before jumping ship to join his childhood club.
After the Tigers match, Mponda said the team needs to beef up if they are to compete for the TNM Super League title next season.
He also described the current season as “very frustrating, full of ups and downs”.
“It has been the same story throughout the season. We are very limited, we need to refresh the squad,” he said.
Nevertheless, the former Bullets and Flames skipper hailed his charges, saying under their limited capabilities, they fought very hard.
He said: “Of course, there are some people who feel Bullets should be winning everything, but with which players?”
Bullets are second on the log table with 63 points, five behind Wanderers with a game apiece before they wind up the season. They have lost six matches, including back-to-back defeats against Wanderers.
