Masters go top, Silver draw against Nomads
Newcomers Masters FC last evening thrashed Goshen City Dedza Dynamos 4-0 to go top of the FDH Bank Premiership while Silver Strikers missed the opportunity following a goalless draw against hosts Mighty Wanderers.
In a match played under floodlights at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, hosts Masters put up a dominant performance to register their fourth win in five outings and amass 12 points.

The Peter Mponda-coached side confined Dynamos to a fourth defeat in five fixtures in what was more of a one-sided match.
Masters broke the deadlock in the 21st minute through Hastings Ndau before Enock Kaonga doubled the lead nine minutes later. The first half ended 2-0.
Ndau made it 3-0 in the 54th minute before completing his hat-trick in the 81st minute.
“I am happy with how my charges have played today. They played according to plan,” said Mponda, who in 2025 steered Silver to top-flight glory.
At Zomba Stadium, Silver Strikers could have gone top of the 16-team log table on better goal difference with a win, but a stalemate against Wanderers means they lie second on the log table with 10 points, the same as third-placed Blue Eagles, who have an inferior aggregate.
As for Wanderers, they have moved two steps up to seventh following a tie on seven points with sixth-placed Ekhaya FC, eighth-placed Civil Service United and ninth-positioned Moyale Barracks.
Silver featured their trusted arsenal including Festus Duwe, Levison Maganizo, Ernest Petrol and Zebron Kalima but they failed to find a way past the Nomads goalkeeper Dalitso Khungwa.
Nevertheless, Silver assistant coach Mapopa Msukwa said the draw was not a bad result considering that they were playing away.
“We dominated in the second half and we were unlucky not to get a goal. All the same, most of our fixtures against Wanderers end in stalemates and plucking a point from this match is not bad,” he said.
On the other hand, Wanderers had all their key players such as Thierry Tanjong Sama, Muhammad Sulumba and Blessings Singini but they could not breach Silver’s backline marshalled by goalkeeper George Chikooka.
Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira admitted tha it was a tough game facing Silver.
“It was a difficult game. We didn’t play our game, especially in the midfield. We lost a lot of balls and it was difficult to play our game,” he said
In another interesting match yesterday, Mafco FC beat visitors Chitipa United 2-0 at Champion Stadium in Mponela, Dowa with Clifford Msowoya hitting a brace to move three places up to 10th with six points.
At Civo Stadium in Lilongwe, Karonga United beat hosts Civil Service United 0-1 to register their first win in four matches. Godfrey Suwale’s sole strike was enough to take the Ingwena to 12th with five points.
