Crisis rocks Dedza dynamos

FDH Bank Premiership table anchors Goshen City Dedza Dynamos are engulfed in a deepening crisis  following the team’s poor start to the  season in which they have managed just a point from five matches.

The club’s struggles have exposed divisions between players, the technical panel and management.

Dedza Dynamos chairperson Gerald Kampanikiza, in a Facebook post, accused the technical panel of failing to instill  discipline in the team.

But embattled head coach Alex Ngwira, in an interview yesterday, responded by asking the management to sort out players’ concerns.

The tactician admitted that the club’s preparations for the 2026/27 season were disrupted after the team finished the previous campaign late due to Castel Challenge Cup commitments.

“We delayed our pre-season preparations. Some players also reported late for training for their own reasons. The players had issues with management and this affected the morale of the team when we kicked off the season. I must be honest, this has affected the team’s performance,” said Ngwira.

The tactician said both the management and the technical panel must take responsibility of the club’s poor performance.

“The issue concerning the players’ welfare is not my responsibility. That is the duty of management. But what I can assure you is that management is sorting out these challenges. They are trying their best. The storm will soon be over,” he said.

On time running out after being given a three-game target, in which he has already lost two to Masters FC and Blue Eagles, Ngwira maintained that management should first address off-field challenges before blaming the technical panel.

“I am employed under a contract. Of course, I can be fired, but only based on valid reasons,” he added.

Club general secretary Mabvuto Mugode, in an interview, attributed the misunderstandings to players’ expectations regarding the club’s K600 million sponsorship package.

“The issue about misunderstandings on sponsorship is there because some players may have thought we would get the full K600 million at once. But sponsorship does not work that way. The sponsors release the funding based on budgets for our programmes,” he said.

Mugode said the sponsors have been honouring their obligations.

“As of now, we don’t owe the players any money in terms of salaries and game bonuses,” he said.

Mugode also said thet players agreed to receive their signing-on fees in instalments because many signed long-term contracts.

He stressed on the coach’s failure to enforce discipline in the team.

“For example today [Monday], we are resuming training, but yt some players are absent for no reason. They will report for training on Wednesday and the coaches will do nothing at all,” nhe said.
