NGO, youth groups to build houses for vulnerable people
Habitat for Humanity Malawi has teamed up with youth-led organisations in Mzuzu to construct four decent houses for vulnerable families in Lusangadzi Area in the city.
The youth-led organisations are Do Your Part Initiative, Rhema Foundation and People First Foundation.
Do Your Part Initiative director Mathews Bota said on Tuesday during a ground breaking ceremony for the construction work that every family deserves a safe environment.

“The houses will offer the families a secure and stable home where children can grow up with dignity, hope and opportunity,” he said.
Bota said they will target households headed by the elderly, people with disabilities and children.
He said Habitat for Humanity will provide construction materials and expertise with the rest of the costs to be met by the three organisations and community members.
Habitat for Humanity construction specialist Mayamiko Sailesi said partnerships with the organisations are key to scaling up access to safe housing.
“Young people are not just beneficiaries. They are agents of change. By involving them in building homes for their communities, we are addressing two issues at once: shelter poverty and youth empowerment,” he said.
Group village head Yavundika hailed the initiative, saying it will give the beneficiaries safe homes.
One of the beneficiaries, Happy Chimaliro, expressed gratitude, noting that owning a decent home will improve his health.
Construction of the four houses is expected to be completed within two month.
