Well-wisher supports cancer patients at KCH
A well-wisher from Lilongwe, Deliwe Banda Chipeta on Saturday fed over 150 patients at the National Cancer Centre at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe where she also donated assorted items to guardians
Chipeta, who is a chef and a registered nurse-midwife and owns Dechichi Catering, said the Cooking for a Cause initiative has been her way of giving back to the community through her catering business.
“The drive came from knowing how difficult the cancer journey can be physically, emotionally and financially. I realised that food is more than nourishment. It is a way to show love, care and hope to the patients,” she said.

Chipeta said that as a caterer, she wanted to use the gift God gave her to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients.
“Every meal we prepare is a
reminder that they are not alone, that they are valued and that there is a community standing with them,” she said.
A nurse supervisor at the centre Agnes Gunde commended the gesture and asked for more well-wishers to emulate the example set by Chipeta.
“The patients we serve are different from others because
they require food rich in protein. So, having a caterer serving breakfast and a three-course meal for lunch is a blessing to us,” she said.
Gunde said the patients come from across the country; hence, some do not have enough resources and support to keep them going.
The initiative cost about K3 million.
