Malawi’s celebrated fashion designer Lilly Alfonso continues to soar on the international stage as this month she is set to represent Malawi at two big fashion events in Europe.

Alfonso leaves Malawi today (Thursday) for Spain for the Barcelona Africa Fashion Week (BAFW) where her designs are set to rock the runway the following day.

From Spain, the fashion designer heads to one of the world’s fashion hubs, Paris, France for the World Fashion Week pre-event.

“Legendary Gold Limited in partnership with the World Fashion Organisation and the Nigerian Embassy in France have the honour of informing you that you have been nominated to represent your country at the Africa Fashion Reception of the World Fashion Week scheduled for the 22nd of June, 2013 in Paris, France.

“Only one designer has been nominated by the Executive Board to represent each of the participating countries. Your brand was selected to represent Malawi ahead of other entries from other Malawian designers.

“The Africa Fashion Reception is one of the activities that will mark the countdown to the Gala/Welcome of the World Fashion Week scheduled for Paris in 2013/14,” reads an invitation letter to Alfonso, signed by Lexy Mojo-Eyes, a member of the International Committee & Board of Directors of the World Fashion Organisation.

The Africa Fashion Reception will also serve as the official launch of the Africa Fashion Fiesta (AFF), adds the letter.

“The AFF platform is being positioned as the largest African fashion market. It will link African garment and accessories producers/manufacturers with international buyers. It will be held twice annually: once in an African country and the other one in Paris.
The first edition will be held in 2014,” it says.
