Amref Health Africa has trained 25 people to spearhead change in the fight against gender and harmful cultural practices that affect access to reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health services.

Ready to serve: Some of the change agents

Speaking during the closing ceremony of the training on Friday at Merandozi Executive Lodge in Ntchisi, Amref Health Africa project officer Virginia Kayoyo said the change agents are expected to work with chiefs, community and religious leaders to create a demand for reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health services.

“These are community representatives and influential people in the community who will be agents of change in gender and harmful cultural practices that affect access to reproductive maternal, newborn and child health services. The training will contribute to a reduction in maternal and neonatal mortality in Ntchisi,” said Kayoyo.

One of the participants, Magret Chimimba, of Mateche Village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kasakula, said the training will help her to work with other stakeholders in the reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality in the district.
