Anisha Bashir to face Kenyan in title bout
Renowned female boxer Anisha Bashir has secured a Women International Boxing Association (Wiba) super lightweight title bout against Kenyan Everline Odero on November 30.
The fight, which is being promoted by Kenyan Caleb Kuya of Osaga Boxing Promotions, will take place at Destiny Park Gardens in Nairobi, Kenya.
This is a second chance for Bashir who in July lost in the World Boxing Council (WBC) silver lightweight fight against Briton Chantelle Cameron in London.
Briefing Weekend Nation on Thursday, Bashir’s Zimbabwe-based manager Clyde Musonda of Delta Force Boxing Academy, described it as a great opportunity for her.
“So before the title bout, we have arranged another eight-round fight for Anisha against Happy Daudi of Tanzania on October 6 at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe.
“This will prepare her for the title fight. She needs to be active because one of the factors that contributed to her loss in United kingdom was because she had not fought in almost 15 months. So we don’t want to repeat the same mistake, “ said Musonda.
He believes that given support, Bashir can realise her dream to become a world champion and make Malawi proud again.
“As his manager and trainer, I am appealing to well-wishers to help us raise K1 million to enable us promote the much-needed warm-up fight ahead of the world title bout,” said Musonda.
He said Malawi has got boxing talent, but it lacks support, especially from the corporate world..
Bashir has since expressed delight at securing another title bout. “I am so excited and looking forward to this fight. I have already started training because I don’t want to leave anything to chance,” she said.
