Beit CURE Malawi will on December 2 celebrate its 20 years of service and impact in providing free orthopaedic treatment to children with treatable disabilities and spiritual care.

The hospital has for the past two decades been playing a critical role in treating conditions such as clubfoot, bowed legs, knocked knees, untreated burns and extra digits.

The hospital has been operating on children with treatable deformities

Speaking in an interview, Beit CURE’s spiritual director Chimwemwe Chimbatata said the hospital is planning to double the impact from next year.

He said: “We perform 1 300 surgical operations annually and evaluate more than 15 000 outpatients at the same time reaches out to over 20 000 people with the gospel through community engagement outreach.

“We are making a significant capital investment for our clinical services and we are planning to rebuild our theatres and upgrade our biomedical equipment. The facility improvement will increase patient volumes and surgical services.”

Chimbatata further said the hospital will no longer provide adult care.

“We are only refocusing on our mission of serving children less than 18 years old. Our main goal is to double the impact on the children we serve. The hospital was originally designed to be a pediatric hospital for poor children to help break the cycle of poverty and despair for those living with treatable physical disabilities,” he said.

The celebrations will be complemented by a ground-breaking ceremony for the infrastructure upgrade and celebration of 20 years of mended bones, healthy smiles, helping children rise from wheelchairs to a better future and proclaiming the kingdom of God.
