Big Brother SA returns
Big Brother Africa (BBA) fans have got all the reasons to smile as four months after the 2013 BBA season finale a country contest starts in South Africa.
“Big Brother South Africa starts in January 2014 and will feature only South African housemates. Big Brother South Africa will be titled Big Brother Mzansi and will be available on DStv channel 161 (Mzansi),” reads a statement on Multichoice Malawi Facebook page.
As is the norm for BBA, the show returns after a year, but in January 2014, another version returns which will be based on almost the same format. South African viewers got their first taste of Big Brother South Africa in 2001.
Observers and media critics lamented a cultural shock celebrating the loss of privacy, but the show saw several further seasons and made stars.
On June 12 2013, M-Net announced that its local brand, Mzansi Magic, will produce another South African edition of Big Brother, with the show being rebranded as Big Brother Mzansi, which is set to air in January 2014. It will mark the South African edition’s return, 12 years after the previous season ended.
Big Brother South Africa is a television series in South Africa produced by Endemol. It has had a total of two seasons as well as a celebrity version. The first season aired in 2001. The host of all the South African shows as well as Big Brother Africa Season 1 was Mark Pilgrim.
Big Brother The Chase, shown on Africa Magic across Africa and used as a driver for DStv pay-Tv growth across Africa, has lured over 1 million unique website visitors since it started in May.
No specifics, such as the presenter, the prize, the theme or which South Africans would be allowed to enter has been announced.
