Bitter-sweet game for Malawian in Kenya

Raquib ‘Lulu’ Milanzi, the only Malawian footballer in Kenya Premier League, scored his first league goal on Saturday afternoon, but his celebration was dampened after his Tusker FC lost 3-2 to Sony Sugar in Nairobi.

The outgoing Kenya league champions Tusker gave away a 2-1 lead and succumbed to a Moses Arita hat-trick for the relegation-threatened Sony at Nyayo National Stadium, reports Supersport.

“Malawian Raquib Milanzi then equalised for the brewers 10 minutes later. Ali Abondo danced into the box and released Jesse Were, who set up Milanzi, who calmly slotted in the equaliser at the far post,” reported www.supersport.com.

In an interview with The Nation after the match, the former Civo United midfielder said he was gradually finding his foot in Kenya football.

“Last week, I played a full game against Karituri and I was named man-of-the-match. I can say I have adapted so fast to the league and their style of play. It is a bit physical and the standards here are better than those of Malawi,” he said.

But earlier, Tusker coach Robert Matano expressed reservations with his players’ approach to last weekend’s match against Karuturi Sports away in Naivasha, according to Supersport.

“I did not like how the team played since the players lacked commitment and it is like some players just want to finish the season and search for greener pastures. We cannot play like that and win since the players are not playing enough including our top scorer,” Matano was quoted as saying. Tusker are placed fifth on the log table.
