Kananji: There is no way we can finish in top four

Blantyre United coach Elia Kananji was left frustrated by his charges’ feeble display in 1-0 loss to Evirom FC at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday with his woes worsened by the unexplainable absence of three key players.

In a post-TNM Super League match interview, a dejected Kananji faulted his charges’ attitude towards the game that left them 11th on 25 points.

“To be honest with you, there is no way we can finish in the top four. We must not cheat ourselves here. You have to look at the opposition and the points tally and be honest. If you play struggling teams such as these, they are bound to surprise you.

“It becomes even worse when you concede early as we did. Conceding in the fourth minute makes it difficult to come back as you panic and there are spells in the game players forget they are trailing thinking the game is at 0-0. Evirom’s job was easier after they scored; they just had to defend,” said Kananji.

With key players such as Thoko Stambuli and Abraham Kamwendo having left for Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers respectively, Kananji said it will take time for new players such as Anthony Banda and Nafe Nsasa to gel with the rest.
