Hours before this year’s Miss Malawi regional finals for the Centre, electronic appliances and furniture merchant, Blockbuster and hospitality joint, Riverside Hotel on Friday showcased their support towards the event jointly managed by Nation Publications Limited (NPL) and Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS).

At functions held separately at the two companies’ offices in Lilongwe, Blockbuster handed over a K3 million cheque towards organisation of this year’s event while Riverside Hotel offered to host contestants during camping for both the regional and national finals.

Blockbuster assistant manager Temwa Banda said they decided to support the event because, among other things, it creates a platform for girls to show their capacity to intervene in the fight against rapid population growth.

“Apart from this being a corporate social responsibility, we are aiming at contributing towards the support for creation of a platform where girls can have a chance to contribute towards the fight against rapid population growth,” she said.

Blockbuster were also expected to conduct a raffle draw during the event at Bingu International Convention Centre (Bicc) last night.

After signing the contract for accommodating the contestants, Riverside Hotel general manager Mohammad Firoz Akhter echoed sentiments on the importance of fighting population growth—which is the theme of the beauty pageant—earlier made by Albert Banda of NPL, who represented the organisers at the signing ceremony.
