Bullets, Civil back to winning ways

Nyasa Big Bullets yesterday returned to winning ways after walloping visitors Mlatho Mponela 3-0 in a one-sided TNM Super League at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Hassan Kajoke scored a brace while Mike Mkwate netted the other goal as Bullets collected maximum points.

The win has helped Bullets move to fourth position on the table with 18 points displacing Blue Eagles who are now fifth with 17 points.

It was clear that Bullets coach Callisto Pasuwa, who on Saturday rested most of the senior players in their 1-0 loss to rivals Be Forward Wanderers in Independence Day celebrations match, was going for a kill.

After supporters protested when Bullets were held 3-3 by Chitipa United, the Zimbawean did not want to leave anything to chance.

He featured his best first XI with captain John Lanjesi, Precious Sambani and Gomezgani Chirwa all returning from injuries.

Up-and-coming striker Hassan Kajoke made it 1-0 in the ninth minute from the spot after a foul on Patrick Phiri.

Kajoke completed a brace in the 29th minute before Mike Mkwate, who was in the first XI after warming the bench in the last four games, made it 3-0 in the 40th minute.

Despite the loss, Mlatho coach George Zulu praised his charges for putting up a gallant fight.

“I think experience made a difference. Most of our players are young and inexperienced. You can see that we played well, but we wasted several scoring opportunities,” he said.

Pasuwa was on the other hand, relieved to collect maximum points to ease the pressure from supporters.

In Lilongwe, Khuda Muyaba punished his former team Moyale Barracks as he was on target when Silver Strikers beat the Mzuzu-based Malawi Defence Force (MDF) outfit 1-0 at Silver Stadium.

Civil Sporting Club recovered from their bad patch as they edged Blantyre-based Ntopwa FC 3-0 at Civil Stadium.

Fletcher Bandawe, Blessings Tembo and Kelvin Thoto scored as Civil registered their first victory in six matches.

Dwangwa United registered a victory a 2-0 victory over Karonga United. Gracian Kankhande scored a brace.
