Bullets start pre-season training
FCB Nyasa Bullets say they are done on the transfer market and have switched focus to preparations for the 2025 season.
The People’s Team coach Peter ‘Mjojo’ Mponda and chief executive officer Albert Chigoga said they are satisfied with the 25-player squad they have assembled.
Bullets regrouped yesterday morning at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KuHes) Sports Complex in Blantyre fortheir first training session.

Said Mponda: “We are now good to go. It’s time to get started with pre-season, we do not have much time.”
On his part, Chigoga was quoted by Zodiak Broadcasting Station as as having said: “Unless something crops up, as per discussions we had with the coach, we are done on the markket.”
He also said unlike last season when they had 38 players, including three that were loaned out to other teams, they are now remaining with 25.
“We now want to have a sizeable, but competitive squad,” said Chigoga.
Meanwhile, in an interesting twist, veteran coach Gilbert Chirwa will work under his former player Mponda at Bullets, having been hired as the first assistant coach.
This comes after the People’s Team unveiled Mponda’s 11-member backroom staff on Sunday.
Chirwa, who coached Mponda at Bullets between 1998 and 2004, said he feels proud with the strides that his former player has made and looks forward to working with him.
“It will be great to work under him. It’s rare that someone you groomed as a player, becomes your boss,” he said.
“I feel really proud that he has risen into a good coach and I look forward to working with him and the rest of the technical panel.”
The Bullets legend, whose last stint with the team was in 2007, also said they go along “very well” with Mponda.
On his part, Mponda said he chose Chirwa because of his vast experience.
“He has seen it all and when the going gets tough, we’ll definitely need his vital experience and guidance,” he said.
On being a boss to his former coach, Mponda said: That shouldn’t be a problem, it happens. What matters is how you relate and work together for a common cause.
“Juan Manuel Lillo Diez, who is one of Pep Guardiola’s assistant coaches at [English Premiership side] Manchester City once coached Guradiola at a Mexican club.”
The technical panel also has Fischer Kondowe as second assistant coach while James Chilapondwa has been retained as team manager.
It also has Victor Mphande as goalkeepers’ coach, Noel Kaole as fitness trainer, Chimwemwe Nkhoma as physiotherapist, Felix Mwalule remains the team doctor, Malumbo Chikoko has also been maintained as equipment manager and Chisomo Chikwembani is the welfare officer.
Zicco Mkanda is the new performance analyst and strikers trainer while Ernest Vitto is the security officer.
