Listen to this article

Thousands of villagers yesterday queued to buy cheap maize at Migowi in Phalombe District in an exercise initiated by Enlightened Christian Gathering’s leader Prophet Shepherd Bushiri.

Bushiri is currently selling maize at K100 per kilogramme, a move aimed at helping the less privileged across the world, struggling to access the staple food.

The staple, on the private market, is currently fetching around K20 000.

Chief Nyanja of the area thanked Prophet Bushiri for putting smiles on people’s face, saying the initiative has demonstrated his love for humanity.

So far markets have been opened in Mangochi, Mzimba, Ntcheu and Salima. According to Bushiri’s spokesperson Ephraim Nyondo, the next destination is Balaka and Thyolo districts.
